Israeli ambassador on farewell visit |06 July 2011
After serving for four years in the East African region and Seychelles, Mr Keidar said he is very proud of his achievements, especially in the increased cooperation between the two countries.
“It is not only a bilateral friendship but we have also worked together in agriculture, training people both here and in Israel, chartered flights with Israel tourists coming here, simply because it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world,” he said.
The ambassador added that there are now also private Israeli-managed farms growing vegetables and our countries have also worked together on information technology and communications projects.
“I have also invited potential investors from Israel to come and visit Seychelles since there are business opportunities available to them here,” he said.
“Our countries have also enjoyed good political relations and I hope that this cooperation not only continues, but grows and I wish my successor all the best.”
Israel, which declared its independence on May 14, 1948, has had diplomatic relations with Seychelles since June 1992.
Ambassador Keidar’s mandate has seen his country helping Seychelles in fields like education, agriculture, community development, small enterprise and health.
During recent visits to Seychelles, Mr Keidar, who was based in Nairobi, met some of the nurses who had been trained in Israel, as well as some of the local farmers and people working in the ministry of agriculture, highlighting examples of the ongoing partnership.
