Games’ delegations to occupy 286 houses on Ile Persévérance |28 July 2011

Land Use and Housing principal secretary Christian Lionnet said all the houses have electricity and water connections.

But because of the present scarcity of water as a result of the dry season, a desalination plant is being built to satisfy the needs of the athletes, officials, managers and Seychellois residents of the 173 houses already allocated earlier this year.

Work on the desalination plant -- which produces 500,000 cubic metres of water and can cater for 1,000 households -- is being done by the Island Construction Company.

Mr Lionnet added that the 286 houses being used for the IOIG will only be given in November to Seychellois who are on the waiting list as his ministry has to complete some work on them.

These include doing the wardrobes, cupboards and other finishing work.

He added that a total of 2,500 houses will be built on Ile Persévérance by 2017 depending on financing.

“We hope to deliver all the 2,500 houses by 2017. If we get the necessary financing we will finish the job even before 2017, but if not it might drag a little,” said PS Lionnet.
