Chinese delegation keen to contribute to farming projects |11 August 2011

The delegation, who arrived in the country on Tuesday, comprises the vice-minister of Agriculture Niu Dun, the director general for fisheries Zhao Xingwu, the chief of service for the international corporation Tang Shengyao, the chief of service for the director general of the Ministry of Agriculture Han Xu, and Yaun Fang, who is the delegation’s interpreter and the assistant director for the service centre of the international corporation for the Ministry of Agriculture.

They were met at the Seychelles International Airport by the Minister for Investment, Natural Resources and Industry Peter Sinon, the principal secretary for Investment and Natural Resources Michael Nalletamby, the chief executive of the Seychelles Agricultural Agency Antoine-Marie Moustache and the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Seychelles Wang Weiguo.

The delegation spent the first half of Tuesday visiting some of our farms on the west coast of Mahé, the Diagnosis Laboratory at Grand Anse and the research and development centre at Anse Boileau.

After lunch, they were met by acting chief executive of the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) Finley Racombo at the Providence Fishing Port, where an elaborate visit of the facilities was conducted.

The delegation made known its interest in SFA’s projects for local fishermen long liners and in contributing to the development of Seychelles aquaculture venture.

The latter will be the focus of an African summit Seychelles will host later this year.

A meeting relating to the visits made by the delegation will be held today with all interested parties including the Seychelles Farmers’ Association.

The delegation, who is here at the invitation of Minister Sinon, leaves Seychelles later this afternoon.
