Table tennis: doubles events-Seychelles wins two bronze medals

The women’s doubles pair of Benstrong and Bristol

Held at the Roche Caïman Omnisports gym, the matches were the continuation of Wednesday’s semifinals.

Mauritius’ Widaad Gukhool and Rkikhesh Taucoory took the mixed doubles gold with a 3-1 win over Cedric Agathe and Murielle Rivière of Reunion. 

With Reunion in second place, Seychelles faced Madagascar in the third place playoff. Godfrey Sultan and Anniessa Benstrong emerged the better team, with a straight 3-0 win over Franc Randriamihamina and Zonal Razafindralambo.

In the women’s doubles, Reunion’s Audrey Picard and Murielle Rivière clinched the gold, after defeating Widaad Gukhool and Deborah Wong Yuen Knong of Mauritius 3-0.

With Mauritius in second place, Seychelles’ Anniessa Benstrong and Christy Bristol pitted their skills against Reunion’s Chloe Santanon and Clemence Hoareau for third and fourth places. Seychelles triumphed 3-2 and so took the bronze medal.
 
There were also men’s doubles matches, where Reunion were the better team with Cedric Agathe and Sebastien Maillot grabbing the gold with a 3-2 win over Mauritius’ Rikkesh Taucoory and Warren Li Kam Wa.

The silver medal went to Mauritius’ Jean-Michel Appasamy and Brian Chan Yook Fo, who defeated another Mauritian team comprising Rkikesh Taukoory and Warren Li Kam 3-1, relegating the latter to the bronze medal position.
Today will see women’s and men’s singles categories competition taking place.
