Seychelles can host international competitions |18 August 2011
“We can now host high level international competitions and will strongly consider entering the bidding processes soon,” he said.
“The 8th Indian Ocean Island Games have provided us with the opportunity to do a major overhaul of the existing sports facilities in Victoria and Roche Caïman, bringing them to a very high standard.
“We thank all sponsors and the Seychelles government for their valuable contributions in refurbishing the sports venues, bringing them to the high level all international sports bodies look for when choosing host cities and countries for any particular competition,” added the minister.
He added that his ministry and the National Sports Council have to work on a good maintenance programme for the facilities to increase their life-span and cut down on vandalism.
The minister added that local coaches will continue working with the Seychelles teams as it is too expensive to hire foreign coaches on a permanent basis.
“The different teams will continue training under local coaches, but we will bring in foreign expertise whenever there is a need to,” said Minister Meriton, who added that we should continue working through sports to bring peace to all humanity.
