Miss Deaf World pageant an enriching experience for Debra

Debra represented Seychelles and the local deaf community at the pageant held from July 1-12 in the Czech Republic.
She was accompanied on the trip by Medgée Morgan, a member of the Association for People with Hearing Impairment (Aphi).

“It was a very exciting experience for me as it was the first time I took part in such a big contest. But even though I was very nervous by not knowing what it was going to be like, I am now happy I made it,” said Debra.
She said she now feels more confident and ready to take on other challenges.

“The pageant was well organised and it was a wonderful event,” she said.

Altogether there were 38 girls competing and it was quite tough as all the girls were well prepared.

Various events were organised as part of the pageant and these included a cultural show.

Debra performed a sega dance which was very much appreciated by the guests.

The Miss Deaf World 2011 title was won by Ilaria Galbusera from Italy. The 1st princess is from Indonesia and the 2nd princess from Russia.

Apart for visiting the beautiful city of Prague, Debra made lots of friends.

Debra wishes to thank Aphi and all those who believe in her and expresses her gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all her sponsors for their support and the training she received from colleagues.

Meanwhile, Aphi is once again calling on girls with hearing impairment who wish to take part in the Miss Deaf Seychelles 2012 to contact the association at the Victoria Market.
