Carnaval International de Victoria-UK’s Notting Hill and Mason’s Travel shine again

Notting Hill (above) and Mason’s have been voted best floats in this year’s Carnaval International de Victoria

The Notting Hill delegation received their award – a golden trophy – and Mason’s Travel R25,000 on Sunday evening at the Freedom Square during the prize-giving ceremony.

The event also coincided with the closing of the carnival by the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) chief executive Alain St Ange in the presence of the Minister for Investment, Natural Resources and Industry Peter Sinon and STB deputy chief executive Elsia Grandcourt.

There was also a special category for schools where the La Rosière primary school won R15,000 as first prize and the University of Seychelles came out second to receive R10,000.

La Rosière’s float was judged the best in the special category for schools

Other international teams who caught the attention of the judges were Reunion and Indonesia. Reunion came with a large delegation and won second prize – a silver trophy – while the Indonesians came out third to receive a bronze trophy. All trophies have been designed by Tom Bowers.

For the local category, the second prize of R15,000 went to the Jj Spirit Foundation and Hunt Deltel received a cash prize of R10,000 as third prize.

Mr St Ange also made a special mention of the Zimbabwe team, whom he said was competing with professionals from other countries.

Mr St Ange then thanked all Seychellois, visitors and the international press for coming in great numbers for this year’s carnival.

He gave them all rendez-vous for next year’s event which will take place from February 8-10.
He said the carnival will be very different next year as the STB will fall under the new Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

The closing speech was followed by the Carnaval International de Victoria lottery draw and the star prize – a Hyundai i10 – has been won by S. Mathiot from Anse Aux Pins.
