Czech Republic and Seychelles seek to strengthen cooperation |21 March 2012
Speaking to the press soon after presenting his credentials to President James Michel and having talks with the Seychellois head of State at State House yesterday morning, the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Seychelles Marek Libřický said this would be his priority during his mandate.
“We did not talk about the past but about future and what more the two countries can do together,”
said Mr Libřický.
Among the various areas explored Mr Libřický said increased cooperation in the education sector, possibly between the University of Seychelles and Czech universities featured high in the discussions.
He noted that there is quite a number of Seychellois students studying in various fields in the Czech Republic.
He described relations between Seychelles and the Czech Republic as very good as the two countries share a lot of issues of common interest.
“Our two countries are in regular contact on various issues,” Mr Libřický said.
He noted that there has been over the past couple of years an increase in exchanges between the two countries in various areas and more tourists from the Czech Republic are visiting Seychelles as the Czech people get to know Seychelles more through tourism publicity campaigns in the Czech media.
Mr Libřický, who is the 5th Czech ambassador to represent his country here, replaces Margita Fuchsova who served from July 2008 until last year.
Mr Libřický is also his country’s ambassador to Ethiopia where he is based, Djibouti, Madagascar and permanent representative to the African Union and UN Economic Commission for Africa.
Yesterday afternoon he paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Herminie, who visited the Czech Republic early last year.
