Athletics-Top Racers dominant in IAAF Centennial competition |17 August 2012
The Seychelles Athletics Federation organised the competition last Saturday at Stad Popiler to celebrate the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) centennial anniversary.
The competitors earned points for their clubs in the events they took part in. Top Racers amassed 185 points (112 by the girls and 73 by the boys) in the youth category, and 139 points (65 by the female athletes and 74 by male athletes) in the junior/senior class.
Arsu finished as overall runners-up with 137 and 72 points in ten youth and junior/senior divisions, while Shooting Star settled for third place with 75 and 49 points.
Mont Fleuri (39 points), Fast Track (18), Pointe Larue secondary (8) and Aga Sonix 6) occupied fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh places in the youth division.
Pac (12 points), Fast Track (9), Aga Sonix (9) and Spartan (7) were ranked fourth to seventh in the older junior/senior class.
The SAF disbursed a sum of R28,300 on the day as the first three competitors in each of the seven events – 100m, 200m, 400m, 1,500m, long jump, javelin throw and 4x100m relay – received cash prizes.
In the youth division, the winners got R300, runners-up R200 and third place finishers R100 in the individual events, while the top three relay teams got R1,200, R800 and R400.
The cash prizes in the junior/senior class were R400, R300 and R200 for the first three individuals and R1,600, R1,200 and R800 for the relay teams.
The individual event winners were: Fast Track’s Kaily Monthy (youth female 100m in 12.7 seconds), Top Racers’ Diane Nioze (youth female long jump with 5.37m and 200m in 26.08 seconds), Top Racers’ Aicha Cushion (youth female javelin throw with 25.09m), Top Racers’ Aaron Volcère (youth male 100m in 11.3 seconds), Top Racers’ Matty Molta (junior/senior female 100m in 13.0 seconds and 200m in 27.4 seconds), Shooting Stars’ Leeroy Henriette (junior/senior male 100m in 10.7 seconds), Top Racers’ Ezra Almaze (youth female 400m in 59.8 seconds), Fast Track’s Ned Azemia (youth male 400m in 51.4 seconds), Top Racers’ Steward Louise (youth male javelin throw with 40.84m), Arsu’s Yannick Léon (youth male long jump with 5.73m), Fast Track’s Neddy Marie (junior/senior 400m in 50.2 seconds and 200m in 22.3 seconds), Top Racers’ Hilary Robert (youth female 1,500m in 5:44.3), Arsu’s Travis Boniface (youth male 1,500m in 4:25.6), Top Racers’ Dyniz Bristol (junior/senior javelin throw with 17.71m), Top Racers’ Melina Crispin (junior/senior female long jump with 4.77m), Arsu’s Marie-Noella Larue (junior/senior female 1,500m in 6:04.6), Top Racers’ Keddy Moustache (junior/senior 1,500m in 4:40.4), Shooting Star’s Rani Camille (youth male 200m in 23.7 seconds), Aga Sonix’ Jude Sidonie (junior/senior long jump with 6.59m), Top Racers’ Kenny Furneau (junior/senior javelin throw with 40.47m), Top Racers’ youth female 4x100m relay team in 51.9 seconds, Shooting Star’s youth male 4x100m relay team in 45.8 seconds, Top Racers’ junior/senior female 4x100m relay team in 53.2 seconds, and Shooting Star’s junior/senior male 4x100m relay team in 43.4 seconds.
