Athletics-Big turnout for DRDM eco-friendly races

Competing against six other runners in the girls’ under 12 years category, Dubel won the 5km race in 25 minutes 16 seconds (25:16), relegating Anse Aux Pins school’s Taherry Antoine (29:55) and Shamsa Nasser-Ali (31:19) into second and third places.

Anse Aux Pins school’s runners had a very good day Saturday as they won three races.

Danisha Onezime reached the finishing tape first in the girls’ 10 years and under 1km race in 4:37 and she was followed by schoolmates Jolene Mondon (4:38) and Stephanie Ernest (4:48).

With a time of 3:52 in the boys’ 10 years and under 1km race, Jean-Luc Lebon edged home ahead of Ronando Esparon (3:53) and Gervais Cupidon (3:57).

Julio Suzette gave Anse Aux Pins school its third win after crossing the finish line of the boys’ under 12 years 5km race in 22:07. Schoolmate Jean-Yves Sanguignon was second in 24:09 and Caleb Vadivello of La Rosière finished third in 25:05.

Victory in the female under 18 5km race went to Naomie Barra of Anse Royale secondary school who clocked 22:04 and she was followed in second and third places by Diane Belle (22:36) and Andria Auguste (25:15).

Yannick Magnan of Pointe Larue was stronger than training partner Samuel Moustache in the latter part of the male under 18 5km race, winning in 18:15 – 30 seconds faster than the runner-up. Anse Boileau secondary school’s Ned Azemia was third in 19:06.

Veronique Dupont of Eden Island took victory in the female senior 5km race in a time of 26:20 and she was followed home by Vania Godley (32:32) and Charlotte Beauchamp (47:19).

In the male senior 5km race, Yannick Laboudallon of English River won in 19:09, while Achille David (20:41) and Dave Malcouzane (21:06) were second and third.

Jeanna Valentin of Mont Buxton was the fastest female master runner winning the 5km race in 27:34, while Delia Mondon was second in 27:41 and Janice Longbottom third in 36:45.

East Coast Athletics club’s Herbert Adrienne challenged the younger competitors on the course and won the male master 5km race in 19:42 – 3:31 faster than runner-up Vincent Bandon (23:13), while Marc Dogley finished third in 24:10.

Anna Barra of the Top Racers club was the run-away winner of the female senior 10km race in a time of 49:07, relegating Marie-Noella Larue (52:52) and Sheryl Lepathy (53:04) into second and third places.

The men’s senior 10km race winner was Keddy Moustache with 38:00 as Yannick Barra (40:14) and Travis Boniface (41:43) finished second and third respectively.

With only Florise Ernesta as her opponent, Vivienne Vadivello won the women’s master 10km race in 53:28. Ernesta finished in 53:54.

Josue Victor easily won the men’s master 10km race in 45:46 as Shane Kleinschmidt (1h02:23) and Jean-Baptiste Ally (1h07:00) finished second and third.
