Keddy Agnes loses on points
Reigning Sportsman of the Year Andrique Allisop carries Seychelles’ hopes in the ongoing International Boxing Association (Aiba) World Amateur Boxing Championships after a second Seychellois fighter – Keddy Agnes – took the exit yesterday.
Agnes lost to Indian Manpreet Singh in a heavyweight (91kg) preliminary round contest.
According to the Indian press, Manpreet, a silver medallist at the 2010 Asian Games, scored with hard-hitting uppercuts and jabs which did a lot of damage and put Agnes on the back foot right from the very beginning.
Manpreet went on to make the pre-quarters by virtue of a unanimous decision (3-0).
On Thursday, Jovette Jean lost by technical knockout (TKO) against Uzbek Azizbek Abdugofurov in the middleweight (75kg) division.
Allisop will fight Mexican Lindolfo Delgado in the 60kg class second round tomorrow.
