The tree planting activity in full swing
The Perseverance school compound will have shade, fresh air and a new look now that palm, fruit, bonnen kare and bodanmyen trees have been planted there.
The tree planting activity took place on Tuesday and was a joint initiative of the Campaign for Awareness, Resilience and Education against substance abuse (Care) and the school.
Those present for the event were Care’s chairperson Sarah Rene, its director Robert Ah-Weng, teachers and students of the school.
Mr Ah-Weng said the activity is part of the national campaign to plant 20,000 trees.
He added that Perseverance school has been chosen for the activity as it is one of the latest educational institutions where Care has initiated its prevention programme.
Mr Ah-Weng said it is important for us to realise that there is a close link between the human beings and the environment and for us to appreciate it.
He said the tree planting activity is a vital one as it will help students to understand the importance of having respect for the environment and for the people who live there and use it.
Prior to the tree planting activity, Mrs Rene had a few words of advice and encouragement for the students.
There were also various presentations in the form of songs, poems and reflections by the students.
