Partners team up to protect nature trail |16 December 2013

The Anse Georgette to Mont Plaisir nature trail on Praslin is expected to remain in good condition now that the Ministry of Environment, Constance Lemuria hotel and resident Achille Savy have officially signed a memorandum of understanding for its upkeep.

This agreement, signed by principal secretary Wills Agricole from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Bruno Le Gac, general Manager of Constance Lemuria and Achille Savy, owner of the parcel, is for three years and will allow and facilitate access to Anse Georgette beach through the nature trail that runs from Mont Plaisir, through Mont Chenard to Anse Georgette.

Historically, the trails were used by the locals to access various points on the island when vehicular access was absent and a department, which is no longer in existence, was responsible for its management.

Visitors have over the years attempted to access those areas to discover the diverse flora and fauna of Praslin and access some beautiful and idyllic beaches despite the hazards.

Recently the tourism establishments on Praslin expressed their concerns on the state and safety of those nature trails.

Constance Lemuria, which is located at Anse Kerlan, requested to adopt the nature trail early this year in the hope of maintaining the area and making it more accessible to visitors.

The trail is 3km long and starts from the private property of Mr Savy, going through Mont Chenard and ending at Anse Georgette.  Anse Georgette is located on Lemuria’s property and is one of the most beautiful beaches on Praslin.  

After the signing of the agreement, there was also a tree planting ceremony done by the three stakeholders.
