Jujitsu: Jujitsu branches out |31 December 2013

Having recently been witness to a number of crimes and violent behavior in recent times, learning to defend yourself can be a useful tool in such situations. There are various self defence classes around the country and one that is looking to expand itself is Jujitsu.

Jujitsu s a Japanese martial art and a method of close combat for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon or only a short weapon. Jujitsu developed among the samurai of feudal Japan as a method for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon, or only a short weapon. Because striking against an armored opponent proved ineffective, practitioners learned that the most efficient methods for neutralizing an enemy took the form of pins, joint locks, and throws.

Jujitsu instructor Benedict Surman is urging the public to join his classes in bid to remain fit and also learn to defend themselves against assailants. His classes for 2014 will start as from Monday January 6 at the Bel Ombre Community Centre from 5 to 7 pm.

Classes at Bel Ombre will be held on Mondays and Thursdays while he will have another class on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Glacis Community Centre.

Those interested can contact Mr Surman on the telephone number; 2514055.
