National Assembly Speaker meets UCGLA delegation |06 February 2014
National Assembly Speaker, Dr Patrick Herminie and members of the committee of the association of the districts of Victoria met the delegation from the United Cities and Local Government of Africa (UCLGA) yesterday.
The UCLGA delegation was led by Khalifa Ababacar Sall, the mayor of Dakar (Senegal) and president of UCLGA, and comprised Abdelmounime El Madani, the deputy mayor of Rabat (Tunisia) and Jean-Pierre Elong Mbassi, secretary general of UCLGA.
They were accompanied by Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, the mayor of Victoria.
During the meeting, both sides agreed on the need to strengthen the Office of the Mayor of Victoria with a view to enhancing its legitimacy.
They further agreed that decentralising the Mayor’s office would be a major step forward in consolidating the Seychelles democracy and improving our standing on the international scenes.
The secretary general expressed satisfaction for the support rendered to the Office of the Mayor by the National Assembly.
Mayor Moustache-Belle was congratulated for the excellent work she is doing to promote Seychelles on the African continent.
