First phase of ‘La Promenade de Beau Vallon’ nears completion |20 February 2014

The first phase of the La Promenade de Beau Vallon project is nearing completion, Seychelles Nation has learned.

Recently, members of the executive committee of the Seychelles Round Table, led by Dan Fontaine, met the Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joël Morgan and the Minister for Land Use and Housing Christian Lionnet to discuss the progress to date of the project which began in the latter part of 2013, following consultative community meetings held earlier that year.

It will be recalled that on April 28, 2012, an idea to enhance the area was discussed at a meeting of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHTA) with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Following the meeting, draft plans were presented to the stakeholders from the Beau Vallon community and other interested persons.

The Promenade de Beau Vallon project is located at the popular stretch of beach at Beau Vallon, which has long been a well-visited area, between the current and recently renovated Coral Strand Hotel and the beach restaurant, La Plage.

The plan to rehabilitate the beachfront, or  ‘Promenade de Beau Vallon’, will eventually as well cater for enhanced features and services currently not provided for, adding value to the area not only for residents but visitors to the Seychelles as well.

The first phase of the development, which is expected to be completed by the end of this month, is being supported by the Savoy Hotel and constructed by the UCPS. It includes a new ‘family friendly’ pedestrian walkway starting by the Coral Strand Hotel and ending by the La Plage Restaurant.

This latest meeting, which had been requested by the Seychelles Round Table, provided an opportunity for the organisation to brief the ministers on their planned ‘2014 Regatta’, an annual and very popular event which is held at Beau Vallon, and as well to discuss how the Seychelles Round Table could support and, or donate to parts of the La Promenade de Beau Vallon project, a gesture which was well received by Minister Morgan and Minister Lionnet.

Present as well for this meeting from the Seychelles Round Table were Vincent Kim Koon and Shantilal Dhanjee, and from the Department of Transport, Road Traffic Commissioner Patrick Andre.

It should be noted and as reported, that vehicles will not be permitted to drive onto the walkway area while it is under construction and once completed.  Car parks will be provided for those wanting to access the promenade to enjoy all the improvements.  The only exception will be for service and emergency vehicles where needed and for specific reasons.
