Punctuality – cultivating a positive habit for the future workforce |05 March 2014

Being punctual forms an integral part of our everyday lives, be it as a student, teacher, parent or any employee in the world of work.

Attending school regularly and on time has a positive impact on learning, progress and therefore the best life chances for a student.

Excellent attendance and punctuality is the key to a student’s success. Therefore, the Ministry of Education is this year placing great emphasis on ensuring that attendance and punctuality are the highest possible in order to prepare our students for their future adult life.

While developing the positive habit of being punctual as a student, upon joining the world of work as adults will in return reflect your character and level of respect for yourself and others.

As the Minister for Education, Macsuzy Mondon, declared during her address to mark the new academic year: “I urged all students, teachers and staff to abide by the three Rs – Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for your actions. Be exemplary and walk the talk.”

In that same light, it is therefore the responsibility of everyone in our school community – parents, teachers, staff, students and school governance – to ensure your school or institution achieves the positive habit of being punctual. Continue to encourage excellent attendance and punctuality for all students by offering an environment in which our students feel valued and part of the school community.

As the famous quote by Sukant Ratnakar goes: “Beginning of a great day begins the night before.” Let us start disciplining ourselves, planning our time and ensuring the art of being punctual becomes an everyday part of our lives today, tomorrow and for the future.
