Volleyball: Arsu get early win over rivals, Racing Club shocked |01 April 2014

Arsu have the early edge over one of their rivals as they claimed victory on Saturday, while Racing Club were shocked by newcomers to the first division, GAP Boyz.

Division one action returned to the Palais des Sports last weekend, with the tie of the round being the match between Arsu and Friends. What was billed as a close encounter failed to live up to the hype however, as Arsu managed to claim an easy 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-22) win over their rivals after 1 hour 18 minutes to keep their perfect start to the season going.

Arsu, along with defending champions Cascade are the only sides yet to suffer defeat after three games, and they have both not conceded a single set.

Cascade were up against Rainbow and they proved they are still the team to beat this season as they got past the challenge of Rainbow, who did put up a bit of a fight in the third set, but it was not enough to prevent defeat. In the end, Cascade took just 65 minutes to win the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 26-24).

The men’s division one action saw a surprise result as newly promoted GAP Boyz managed to clinch victory over Racing Club.

It was a tough match and both teams fought hard to win. Racing took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20, and might have thought they were in for an easy victory, but that was not to be, as the Praslin side fought back to equalise at two sets apiece by winning the third and fourth sets 25-17 and 26-24. The decisive fifth set was also hardly fought with both set of players desperate not to lose, but in the end GAP Boyz completed their comeback with a 16-14 score for a 3-2 win after 107 minutes of play.

Premium Spikers made it two wins out of two as they claimed a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-22) victory over Neo Boyz after 1 hour 17 minutes of play.

A Kokonet women’s division two match was also played, where Ephelia Resorts claimed their fifth straight win after winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-20) in 53 minutes.

Ephelia are unbeaten this season, while Bel Ombre have suffered their third loss.
