Cycling - Alphonse wins Kia Motors 70.6km road race |08 April 2014
Peter Alphonse was the winner of the Kia Motors-sponsored 70.6km road race held on Saturday.
Alphonse who rides for Life Cycle Club finished the race in 1 hour 59 minutes 11 seconds (1h59:11) to clinch first place ahead of teammate Ahmad Arrisol who finished in 1h59:14. Third place went to Andrick Roucou who rides for Classic Design Club in a time of 2h00:11.
With a total of seven clubs registered this year, it is looking likely to be another interesting cycling season as Eco Riders – who dominated the races last year – will have their work cut out if they are to retain their title as the best local cycling team.
In Sunday’s race it was team Life Cycle who came out on top with a combined time of 5h58:36, while Eco Riders followed in second place with a time of 6h04:09. In third position was Classic Design who registered a time of 6h17:20.
From Providence, the cyclists pedalled to the south of Mahé then up to Grand Anse where they made a U-turn to head back to Anse Boileau. They then trekked up Montagne Posée to reach the east coast and on the way back to the Kia Motors’ headquarters at Providence where the race started.
