Changes in age groups ahead of tomorrow’s Eco-friendly race |11 April 2014
The organisers of the Eco-friendly runs that take place throughout the year have announced changes in the age groups for future races.
In a communiqué sent by the organisers, it is stated that the changes have been made following a request from a number of runners.
The changes which take effect starting with tomorrow’s races are as follows:
1km race will be for runners aged under-10 years old only.
5km for the under-14, under-18, under-35, under-50 and over-50.
10km for under-20 (junior), under-35, under-50 and over-50.
The age will be counted as at December 31. That is, if you are in the under-14 category, it means that you must be 13 by December 30 of the year in question.
Whereas for the master category, the age is counted based on the day the athlete turns 35, meaning if the race in on April 12, you will not qualify for the masters category if you turn 35 on April 13, if you turn 35 on April 11 then you will qualify.
The masters category has now been split into two – 35-49 years and 50+ years.
Tomorrow’s race will start and end at the Anse Royale community centre as of 4pm, and will feature 1km races for those under-10 years old, and the 5km and 10km races.
