La Passe tear apart 10-man St Francis
• High five for Renick Esther
Barclays league leaders La Passe tore apart Baie Lazare-based St Francis 7-0 at Stad Linite on Friday evening with Renick Esther bagging five goals.
La Passe always had the measure of a hapless St Francis side that languish at the bottom of the Barclays league table.
Former St Francis midfielder Stan Fanchette set La Passe on their way to a crushing victory as he opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when he fired past Cameroonian goalie Frank Moutoni to make it 1-0.
St Francis had a half chance in the 17th minute, but Stephan Leon blazed his shot over the crossbar as he failed to trouble goalkeeper Dave Mussard.
La Passe, who were without their injured skipper Achille Henriette and Tanzanian import Salum Kinje, stretched their advantage midway in this half as Renick Esther rifled a shot past goalkeeper Moutoni for a 2-0 lead.
Moutoni though denied Collin Esther in the 34th minute after a brilliant solo run but his shot was smothered by the St Francis custodian.
In the 37th minute, St Francis were reduced to 10 men as Malagasy Malamo Ducaud, who was playing his first match of the season, denied on-loan Nadim Lucas a goal-scoring opportunity as he gave away a penalty.
Referee Emile Fred blew for a penalty against Ducaud and also dished out a straight red card to reduce St Francis to 10 men.
Renick Esther was assigned the spot kick and he made no mistake to make it 3-0 at half-time.
St Francis were to suffer further misery in the second half as in the 49th minute goalkeeper Moutoni was booked for handling the ball outside his penalty box. Dieter Constance drilled the resulting free kick onto the crossbar as St Francis rode their luck.
Renick Esther should have completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute from a glorious long ball from defence by Verna Rose but goalkeeper Moutoni denied him.
Just past the hour mark, La Passe increased their advantage as St Francis captain Harry Libanotis brought down his former teammate Stan Fanchette for a blatant penalty duly awarded by referee Emile Fred. Renick Esther stepped up to bury the shot past Moutoni to make it 4-0.
In the 67th minute, La Passe were again awarded a penalty as St Francis defender Kenny Hoareau pulled down Jean-Paul Adela in full flight. Renick Esther was given the task to score and he did not disappoint as he blasted the ball past Moutoni for a 5-0 lead.
La Passe continued to pile the pressure on St Francis and in the 75th minute Collin Esther floated a teasing corner which dropped to Adela but Moutoni denied his point-blank shot in a crowded penalty area.
La Passe added a sixth in the 81st minute as former LightStars’ midfielder, substitute Andy Brioche centred to Stan Fanchette who beat Moutoni to complete his brace and increase the score to 6-0.
La Passe captain, Tanzanian Rashid Mohamed then floated a free-kick to Malagasy Tholix Jean whose shot crashed against St Francis’ crossbar.
Renick Esther completed a brilliant evening as he bagged his fifth personal goal in the 88th minute as he dribbled past two defenders before slotting the ball into the net for a 7-0 scoreline as he leads the scoring chart with nine goals.
After a great afternoon of football for La Passe, Allen Niole a member of the team’s management was pleased with the yawning win though he still felt his team could have won by a wider margin.
“We created a lot of chances and could have won by a wider margin in a match where we were not stretched but rather won easily,” noted Niole to Sports Nation.
As for St Francis’ coach Marc Mathiot, he was really disappointed once again with his team’s showing.
“We have a lot of problems and it is worrying the way we concede so many goals. The defeat is really humiliating,” claimed coach Mathiot.
Meanwhile, Anse Reunion could only manage a goalless draw against Northern Dynamo on La Digue on Saturday.
