NSC’s dormitory re-opens |10 May 2014
The National Sports Council (NSC) re-opened its dormitory yesterday in a small ceremony at Stad Linite.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) president Antonio Gopal, NSC chief executive Giovanna Rousseau, Aarjay Construction site manager Rama Krishnan, Bernard Denis of the NSC as well as representatives from various sports federations and associations.
Renovation works on the dormitory, which is used by athletes from the inner islands and from overseas to reside in during competition times, began early this year and has taken around three months to complete, according to Ms Rousseau.
Aarjay Construction was tasked with the project which comprises two single rooms and four rooms of six underneath the stands at the Stad Linite.
Said Ms Rousseau: “I would like to say a big thank you to Aarjay Construction for not only doing the renovation work, but also for the extra work they did on the dormitories to get them up to a good standard.”
Miss Rousseau said that altogether 26 people can be accommodated in the dormitory at any one time and if they decide to add bunk beds in the rooms instead, the number of occupants will increase.
With a number of sport activities throughout the year, the re-opening of this facility comes at a great time as athletes will now make use of it and can rest and be better prepared on competition days.
The NSC has already received bookings from various sports for the facility, with the Seychelles women’s basketball team coming in next Friday.
The project has cost the NSC around R800,000 and Aarjay construction also made some financial contribution towards its realisation.
