Draft ICT policy in education in the making |11 June 2014
Work has begun to draft an Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in Education National Policy.
This took place during a Commonwealth of Learning (COL) workshop held from May 28-30, 2014 at the CCATS training room at the Ministry of Education, Mont Fleuri.
The workshop was conducted by COL consultant Andrew Moore, who has extensive knowledge in ICT policies and has led similar training sessions in several countries.
This initiative stems from a proposal discussed at the last regional workshop on ‘Developing Country Policies on the Use of Open Educational Resources (OER) in Southern Africa’, held in Johannesburg in May 2013.
During this regional workshop, at which the Ministry of Education was represented, a request was made for assistance from COL for the drafting of an ICT policy in education, hence the local workshop.
The May workshop was aimed at Seychelles education stakeholders who have an interest in the use of ICT to enhance and possibly help transform traditional education practices.
The workshop was also designed to expose the participants to some of the latest developments in ICT and education, support the creation of a 3-5 year vision and an accompanying ICT in education draft policy document that identifies strategic priorities designed to actualise the vision. The workshop activities were designed to both flag important issues associated with the deployment of ICT in education but to also identify national priorities.
