‘Teachers Light Up the World’ is teachers’ day theme 2014 |10 September 2014
‘Teachers Light Up the World’ is the theme chosen for Teachers’ Day 2014 and it was officially unveiled by Minister for Education, Macsuzy Mondon.
This was during a special tribute show with the involvement of students last Friday at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE) auditorium, Mont Fleuri.
The chosen theme highlights the integral role teachers play in providing a brighter future for the future generations. The theme also honours teachers for the many lives they have touched and continue to touch, influenced, changed and molded.
The special gathering brought together educators from all education and training institutions and students had put together special messages expressing their love, admiration and gratitude. They did so through music and poetry.
During her opening remarks, the principal secretary for education Merida Delcy made reference to the challenges that often leave teachers discouraged.
“In the face of these challenges, you are sometimes inclined to take what you consider the easiest way out. The students’ messages will warm and soften your hearts, because they believe in you. Your work is greatly valued,” said Mrs Delcy.
She urged the students to not only use this moment as an opportunity to show appreciation for their teachers but also as a platform to renew their commitment to being responsible and respectful members of their schools.
The tribute ceremony marked the start of the series of activities that has been scheduled to lead up to the first week of October when International Teachers’ Day is celebrated.
