Opposition leader Pierre is Sadcopac’s new treasurer |11 September 2014
David Pierre is the new treasurer of the governing council of the Southern African Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committee (Sadcopac).
Honourable Pierre, who is the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and chairman of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC), will serve in the post for the period 2015-2017.
Seychelles was elected the treasurer, to be represented by Honourable Pierre, during the election of office bearers of the governing council of the Sadcopac held during the 11th Sadcopac annual conference and annual general meeting in Lusaka, Zambia from September 1-5, 2014.
The FPAC of the National Assembly of Seychelles was represented by Honourable Marc Volcere who was accompanied by the secretary to the committee, Luisa Waye-Hive.
The five-day conference held under the theme ‘Enhancing Development through Oversight of Public Procurement: the Role of Public Accounts Committees’ gathered parliamentarians from the 16 member states of the Sadcopac.
Throughout the conference, delegates considered the various challenges and risks within public procurement and the need for public accounts committees to have greater oversight over public procurement and to curb corruption.
Honourable Volcere also had the opportunity to deliver a presentation on the progress achieved with the implementation of resolutions adopted during the last annual conference held in Tanzania in September 2013.
