. Dawgz and Baya set for title clash
HotShots are the new women’s league champions and Grand Anse Wolves have won promotion to the men’s first division next year after winning the bottom division title, while the men’s top flight title will be decided this weekend between Baya and Mont Fleuri Dawgz.
HotShots are the new women’s league champions after collecting two wins last week. The first came against winless BV Sonics on a 62-36 score. Sheriffa Agathine scored 22 points to lead her side to victory.
Last Sunday, they faced their biggest rivals this season, Mont Fleuri, in the game that ultimately sealed the league title for them and with a game to spare.
This time it was centre Tina Agathine who led her side to victory with 21 points. The final score was 62-51.
HotShots’ final game will be against dethroned champions Anse Etoile Stars.
In the men’s second division, Grand Anse Wolves have finished as champions and will now find themselves playing among the elites next season. Their final win came against Juniors and they won 89-48 thanks in part to C. Japhet’s 25-point contribution.
In the other second division games, Cascade Bullets registered a 60-56 win over Anse Etoile, while Victoria Shooters got a big 107-34 win against AAP Brothers.
In the men’s division one, Mont Fleuri Dawgz lead the league table with 29 points after 14 wins and one loss. A win against Baya in Saturday’s game will guide the Dawgz to the first league title win, but their opponents will be hoping this does not materialise.
Baya won their latest game at the weekend, where they secured victory over outgoing champions PLS Hawks, who have had a disappointing season after losing many key players.
It was the Hawks who started the game the brightest though as they took a one-point lead – 26-25 – at the end of the first quarter, but they could not hold on however as Baya showed their title pedigree by outscoring their experienced opponents 25-14 and 27-19 in the second and third quarters. Baya went on to win the match 92-76 and Timmy Adam was again the star man as he led Baya with 29 points, while veteran Jim Domingue scored 20 points for the Hawks.
On a seven-game win roll in the second round, the Dawgz, who have added former PLS Hawks centre Rodney Lozé to their ranks, will be looking to beat Baya, the only team to beat them this season – 68-54 in the first round – to claim the title.
As for Baya who have already lost twice this year – 61-67 to MBU Rockers in the first round and 95-104 to Premium Cobras after three over-times in the second leg – they have to avoid defeat against the Dawgz and then win their final fixture against the Rockers.
If the Dawgz lose against Baya who then win against the Rockers, the two teams will finish the league tied on 30 points and the latter will win the title on the head to head rule.
