Swimming - Officials improve capabilities through training |17 November 2014
Officials are an important part of any sports as they are the ones who govern the events and enforce the rules and regulations of the game.
With this in mind, the Seychelles Swimming Association (SSA) has recently held training for its officials with the help of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (Fina).
The course ended last Friday where the officials were given their certificates in a short ceremony held at the National Sports Council (NSC) training room at the National Swimming pools.
SSA chairman David Vidot said it is the SSA’s plan to continue to improve the level of its officials and it will continue to organise such courses in the future.
“With this course we hope to see an improvement in the quality of officials we have, so that it will create more opportunities for Seychelles to host international meetings and also for our officials to take part in competitions at higher level,” Mr Vidot added.
The chairman also urged those in attendance to try to bring in more officials so that there can be a larger pool of officials to help with major competitions.
The course was being conducted by Fina instructor Daphne Bird who told Sports Nation that she was pleased with the level of our officials after the course.
“Some of them did not know much at the start of the course, but upon their assessments it showed that they have indeed learned a lot and I am very pleased with them,” Mrs Bird added.
One of those who took part in the training stated that the course will not only help them to officiate better but also as most of them are physical education teachers, it will enable them to better train their athletes and in the process produce better swimmers.
