Football: Waye-Hive named Seychelles’ top footballer |29 December 2014
St Michel winger Gervais Waye-Hive is Seychelles’ best footballer for 2014 after impressing football fans in a year when his team were crowned league and cup champions.
The award ceremony was held on Friday night during the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) end-of-year gathering at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel.
Various awards were presented on the night as members of the federation and teams were present to celebrate their achievements after another long hard season.
Waye-Hive, who has been a vital part of St Michel’s team in recent years, was given the award as voted by the public and finished ahead of two of his teammates. The vastly improved Yannick Manoo was runner-up for the award, while St Michel captain Alex Nibourette was voted third.
“I worked very hard over the years to be the best and I have missed it a few times, but I am happy to have finally won it this year,” said Waye-Hive.
“It was a great season for us and although we missed out on the Airtel Cup, I think we had a very successful season,” he added.
St Michel were at the front of the award ceremony as another of their players – goalkeeper Gino Melanie – was selected as the goalkeeper of the year after managing to successfully fill in the big shoes of one of Seychelles’ best ever goalkeeper Nelson Sopha.
“I have been very patient through the years and this year I was finally given the chance to impress and I grabbed the opportunity and this is the result,” said Melanie who now says his next goal is to be Seychelles’ number one goalkeeper.
The other award that went St Michel’s way was the coach of the year title which went to Ralph Jean-Louis after leading his team to an unbeaten league season, the President’s Cup and Intelvision Cup wins.
