Badminton - Players return from Uganda International Tournament |05 March 2015

Four badminton players were in Uganda recently, where they competed in the Uganda International Badminton Championship.

Juliette Ah-Wan, Allisen Camille, Steve Malcouzanne and Georgie Cupidon were the four players who represented Seychelles in Kampala, Uganda, where the competition was held from March 19 – 22.

While none of them competed in the singles competitions, they were all present for the doubles events.

In mixed doubles, Cupidon and Camille managed to reach the quarter finals where they lost to the Turkish duo Muhammed Ali Kurt and Kader İnal on a 3-0 (8-11, 3-11, 7-11) score.

Cupidon and Camille had earlier got victories over Patrick Kinyua Mbogo and Mercy Joseph of Kenya in the first round on a 3-2 (11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-10, 11-8) score, before qualifying for the quarter final by defeating the team of Abdelrahman Kashkal and Hadia Hosny of Egypt 3-2 (11-6, 7-11, 11-10, 10-11, 11-10).
The team of Ah-Wan and Malcouzanne failed to get past the first round, as they lost their first match on a 1-3 (11-10, 5-11, 8-11, 9-11) score, against India’s Kona Tarun and N. Sikki Reddy.

The ladies doubles failed to produce a win, as Ah-Wan and Camille lost their first round tie 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-5) to Turkey’s Neslihan Kilic and Ebru Yazgan.

As for the men’s doubles, Cupidon and Malcouzanne defeated Kenya’s Allan Karau and John Muiruri Mburu 3-0 (11-5, 11-1, 11-5), before they went on to lose in the second round against Czech Republic’s Pavel Florian and Ondrej Kopriva on a 2-3 (11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 4-11, 9-11) score.

The tournament attracted a total of 20 countries, with 120 players competing across the five events.
