Basketball - Season finally gets underway this weekend with curtain-raiser tournament |16 April 2015
After a much longer wait than many fans are used to, the 2015 basketball season will finally get underway this weekend with the traditional curtain-raiser tournament.
The opening round of matches will take place this Saturday, where games will start as early as 10am at Victoria Gymnasium. The first match is between Mont Fleuri Dawgz and Juniors.
The opening round does have a few interesting match-ups with Grand Anse Wolves coming up against Drifters on Saturday, while on Sunday Premium Cobras will meet league champions Baya. The biggest game on Saturday though will be the women’s quarterfinal match between Anse Etoile Stars and last year’s league champions HotShots, with the winner then meeting Mont Fleuri in the semifinals.
It has been a long wait for local basketball fans who will be happy to finally see their teams in action, especially fans of the newly formed sides, who will eagerly await to see their players take to the court for the very first time.
The curtain-raiser finals will take place on Saturday April 26, with the women’s match scheduled for 5pm followed by the men’s encounter at 7pm.
