Football - Federation opens investigation into cancelled matches |23 April 2015
The dominant sports news story this week has been the two unsavory incidents that caused two football matches to be cancelled.
The first incident took place on La Digue during last Saturday’s Airtel Cup match between La Passe and LightStars. According to reports, referee Alistair Barra feared for his safety after the pitch was invaded and though he asked for police help, he did not receive an immediate response and therefore he decided to abandon the match after consulting with the match commissioner.
Trouble started when La Passe scored their third goal. Some players and fans felt that all three goals should never have counted as they thought they were all offside and brought their grievance to the fourth official and they walked on the pitch to contest these decisions. La Passe were leading 3-0.
The second incident occurred during Tuesday’s Barclays league division two match between St Roch and Victoria City.
Again according to reports Victoria City player Heiddy Labrosse who had been sent off following a mêlée then returned to the pitch with an object in hand, intent on harming another player on the pitch.
The Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) is investigating both cases and it is expected that those responsible will be punished.
