Weightlifters begin IOIG preparation with training camp |07 May 2015

With the 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) virtually on the horizon, most sports federations have begun preparations to get their athletes into shape for the regional showpiece.

With this in mind the Seychelles Weightlifting Federation (SWF) will be sending a first group of seven lifters on an intensive training camp next week.

The team made of three female and four male weightlifters will be leaving Seychelles for South Africa on May 12, as they enter a 10-week training camp in preparation for the 2015 IOIG which will be held in Reunion from August 1-9.

Brenda Lozaique, Rena Agricole and Ruby Malvina will be accompanied by their male counterparts Rick Confiance, Ian Rose, Terrence Dixie and Frank Accouche.
It has also be communicated that on June 23 another group of four lifters will be joining those who are heading out next week to increase the contingent to 11 lifters. They are Steven Baccus, Jean-Pierre Estico, Mashita Labonte and Daryl Riaze.

Meanwhile, reigning Sportswoman of the Year Clementina Agricole will be leaving shortly for the United States of America (USA) for a training camp after which she will join up with the rest of the team for three weeks before heading for Reunion for the IOIG.

With the camp ending on July 23, the weightlifters will then enter directly into competition mode at the 2015 IOIG.

Weightlifting has always been one of the sports that have made Seychelles proud in international competitions and with such a training camp it gives renewed hope of another good medals haul for our weightlifting team in Reunion.
