Football - Plaisance, South Olympic push for promotion |12 June 2015
As teams battle in the Barclays leagues division two and three, Plaisance and South Olympic who both boast very good offense lead the chase for promotion.
Promoted to the second-tier at the end of last season after winning the division three league, Plaisance have shown their ambitions to reach the top flight as they currently sit atop the standings with eight wins in as many matches and just two goals conceded.
Coached by former Seychelles international Jeris César, Plaisance have been simply faultless in their matches this season. They have already won the division two knockout earlier in the year after defeating their main rivals Victoria City at Stad Linite.
With a maximum 24-point haul from eight games, Plaisance also boast the best attack in the league with 23 goals scored. Though it may be early in the season, the side already look capable of achieving back-to-back promotion as they look to return to the top-tier of Seychelles football.
Saint Roch are currently second but some way off their rivals as they sit on 16 points, although they have played two games less than the league leaders. Victoria City lie in third place on 11 points, also having played two games less.
At the other end of the table, the Under-17 selection and Au Cap are both winless after five games. The former boast the worst defensive record so far, having conceded 17 goals, while Au Cap strikers have not had much luck in front of goal, scoring only twice in their five games so far.
Relegated to the second division at the end of the 2014 season, St Francis are still finding it hard as they sit on a lowly four points after six games to occupy ninth place in the 11-team standings.
In the third division, South Olympic are leading the charge as they have been in relentless form in front of goal, scoring a massive 32 goals in seven games – a ratio of four goals per game.
With 16 points after five wins, one draw and one loss, South Olympic are only one point above second-placed Tigers who have won all their five games played so far.
Baie Lazare and Mont Fleuri are the other two undefeated sides in this division and they sit third and fourth respectively.
Mont Buxton are carrying the weight of the table with only a single win in six games for three points
In 10th and ninth places are Bel Air and Beau Vallon respectively, while West Coast Brothers have leaked the most goals – 26 – in six games.
The following are the league tables as they stood on Wednesday June 10, 2015.
