15 swimmers to represent Seychelles in Reunion |18 July 2015

A group of 15 swimmers will be representing Seychelles at the ninth Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Reunion next month.

Fourteen of the 15 swimmers recently returned to Seychelles after enduring a month-long intensive training camp in South Africa and they are currently putting in the final touches to their preparations for the games.

Adam Viktora was the only one absent during their training session at the national swimming pool at Roche Caïman yesterday. Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Minister Vincent Meriton, along with chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Giovanna Rousseau followed yesterday’s session,

Viktora is currently training in France and will join up with the team in time for the games.

Seychelles Swimming Association (SSA) vice-chairman Kenny Roberts revealed to Sports Nation that two swimmers have been added to the team and they are male backstroke specialist Daniel Gill and female backstroke and freestyle specialist Alexus Laird.

The male team comprises Adam Viktora, Pierre-Andre Adam, Dean Hoffman, Adam Moncherry, Samuele Rossi, Daniel Gill, Steven Mangroo and Adrian Nanty, while Felicity Passon, Alexus Laird, Therese Soukoup, Leyla Rigamonti, Nicole Graselli Barni, Amy Andre and Anisha Payet complete the female team.

It should be a good outing for our swim team who have some swimmers like Adam and Mangroo with past IOIG experience, while there will be high hopes for the likes of Viktora, Hoffman, Laird, Gill and Passon.
