9th Indian Ocean Island Games – Reunion |05 August 2015
Unrewarding day in terms of gold medal for Seychellois athletes
It was another unrewarding day in terms of gold medal as our sportsmen and women only managed to win seven silver medals
and one bronze on day three of the ninth Indian Ocean Island Games in Reunion.
Of the seven silver medals, three were won by weightlifter Rick Confiance who, despite trying hard, was unable to match the performance of the Malagasy triple gold medallist. Confiance won silver in snatch, clean & jerk, and Olympic total.
In athletics, Neddy Marie was the silver medal winner with a second place finish in the 400m event, while Silly Gaylord could only manage to win bronze in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Judokas Nantenaina Finesse (-90kg) and Lionel Savy (-100kg) as well as the women’s badminton team were the other three silver medallists.
The country’s men’s badminton team won the bronze medal.
Seychelles has now won 17 medals – 1 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze.
