Weightlifting - Nine more silver medals for Seychelles |08 August 2015

Seychelles could not repeat its 30 gold medal feat achieved here in weightlifting in 2011 as Mauritian lifters were dominant on the platform during the ninth Indian Ocean Island Games.
On the final day of the weightlifting competition yesterday, Seychelles won nine silver medals through Rena Agricole (+75kg), Jean-Pierre Estico (105kg) and Frank Accouche (+105kg).
Agricole finished with a total of 145kg (70kg in snatch and 75kg in clean & jerk) to settle for the silver medal behind Mauritian Shalinee Valaydon who achieved a total of 207kg (91kg in snatch and 116kg in clean & jerk) for three gold medals and the Games’ record.
As for Estico, he finished with 200kg (85kg in snatch and 115kg in clean & jerk) to be ranked second behind Mauritian Jean Yvan Hilary Pierrot who achieved a total of 324kg (142kg in snatch and 182kg in clean & jerk).
Competing at his sixth Indian Ocean Island Games, Frank Accouche, who was aiming to win at least a gold medal, could only finish with three silver medals with a total of 226kg (95kg in snatch and 131kg in clean & jerk).
Mauritian Yovin Gyadin took all three gold medals with performances of 115kg in snatch and 141kg in clean & jerk for a total of 256kg.
Mauritius finished the weightlifting competition with 15 gold medals, compared to Seychelles’ 12 won by Janet Georges (75kg), Clementina Agricole (63kg), Ruby Malvina (58k) and Steven Baccus (94kg).
