11th All-Africa Games - Hard-hitting Agnes wins silver for Seychelles |15 September 2015

Boxer Keddy Agnes became the latest medal winner for Seychelles at the ongoing All-Africa Games, clinching a silver medal in the +91kg weight category.

Agnes could not manage to clinch a first gold in boxing for Seychelles at these games as he lost his final bout to Nigerian Efe Ajagba on a 3-0 score. Despite the loss, Agnes will still be proud of his achievement, winning Seychelles’ third silver medal at these games.

In volleyball, with only eight talented and devoted players in his squad, coach Bernard Denis missed out on celebrating a bronze medal success as the team lost their third place playoff match against Egypt. The final score was 3-0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-15) in favour of the Egyptians, who had also recorded victory against Seychelles in the group phase.

The Seychelles team had lost their semifinal encounter on Sunday against Cameroon on a 0-3 (21-25, 22-25, 23-25) score and thus had to battle for third place against Egypt who lost 2-3 (21-25, 26-24, 26-24, 14-25, 11-15) to Kenya in the other semifinal.

Kenya therefore met Cameroon in the final late yesterday and came from a set down to win 3-1 (15-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-19).

For the men, the final was between hosts Congo Brazzaville and Algeria, while Egypt played Rwanda for the bronze medal.

Seychellois track & field athletes were in action on the first day of competition on Sunday. Joanne Loutoy could only reach the semifinal of the 100m sprint event with a time of 12.44 seconds. But she did post a faster time for this same distance in the earlier round where she stopped the clock at 11.86 seconds.

Neddy Marie was also in action for Seychelles and he managed a time of 47.70 seconds in the 400m heats but it was not good enough to get him into the final of the event.

Meanwhile, today sees the arrival of one of Seychelles’ heroes from the All-Africa Games, double gold medallist Ruby Malvina.

Competing in the 58kg category, Malvina won her two gold medals in clean & Jerk (109kg) and Olympic total (189kg) after having also collected a silver medal in the snatch event with 80kg.

Reigning Sportswoman of the Year Clementina Agricole also returns today after claiming 1 silver medal in clean & jerk (115kg) and 2 bronze medals in snatch (91kg) and Olympic total (206kg).
