Health advisory - Fresh cases of Ebola reported in Guinea Conakry |13 November 2015
As of yesterday all Seychellois citizens require the expressed permission of the Public Health Commissioner to travel to Guinea (Conakry).
This follows news that a total of four cases of Ebola have been reported from Guinea in the past 21 days, all of whom are members of the same family.
As a result of this, border control and surveillance measures (health check forms, temperature scanner, passport verification) currently being enforced by the Public Health Authority and Immigration Department at the ports of entry will be maintained, the Ministry of Health said yesterday in a health advisory.
The advisory further adds that passive or active surveillance or other measures deemed necessary will be applied to anyone who has traveled to, or residing in Guinea (Conakry) in the last 21 days prior to arrival in Seychelles.
A visa processing and acquisition prior to arrival in Seychelles is required for nationals of Guinea Conakry.
These measures also apply to passengers and crew of any ship that visits any port in the affected countries, namely Guinea Conakry.
Elaborating further on the recent cases in Guinea, the Ministry of Health said all 69 contacts currently being followed there are located in Kaliah and are scheduled to complete their 21-day follow-up period tomorrow. However, 60 of the contacts are considered to be high risk, and one contact from Forecariah has been lost to follow up for the past 42 days. Therefore there remains a near-term risk of further cases among both registered and untraced contacts.
