Seypec enters culinary partnership with tourism academy |16 December 2015

Seychelles Petroleum Company limited (Seypec) has formalised a new partnership with the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA).

The new partnership guarantees greater synergies between the two parties in ensuring continued engagement towards capacity building efforts to introduce and train more stewards and cooks for the increasing number of opportunities in the culinary field available on board Seychelles tankers.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to that effect was signed last Friday by the chief executive of Seypec Conrad Benoiton and the academy’s principal Flavien Joubert.

The ceremony, held at the STA campus at La Misère, was attended by the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange, chairperson of the STA board of directors John Stravens, management and staff of STA and of Seypec as well as other guests.

In his welcome address, Mr Joubert thanked Seypec for initiating the partnership and appealed to parents and students of the academy to take heed of the new and widespread opportunities not only restricted to hotels but rather ranging from an array of maritime avenues such as cruise liners and tankers.

On his part, Mr Benoiton reaffirmed Seypec’s engagement for further collaboration to establish and develop greater academic exchange and co-operation in human resource development and capacity building through teaching, training, research and development which will in turn lead to more qualified Seychellois chief cooks on board Seychelles tankers.

Minister St Ange commended STA and Seypec for formalising their engagement and working together towards providing greater opportunities for young Seychellois tourism graduates and professionals.

“Working together always brings added benefits for our people and for our country. What is happening through this MoU will open even more doors for our young graduates. Such an opening on ocean going tankers is not new and one should be reminded of the era when British tankers such as the Ennerdale and Dewdale came to Seychelles and as part of their crew were Seychelles seamen and kitchen personnel. I commend Seypec and our tourism academy for this latest spirit of cooperation which will bring openings for our very own people,” said Minister St Ange.
