Handball - Marie, Moustache named best players |23 December 2015
Goalkeepers Sheila Marie and Paolo Moustache have been honoured as the top female and male handball players for the year 2015.
A small ceremony was organised on Monday at the Palais des Sports to honour the best players and teams.
Au Cap- Sisters’ goalkeeper Marie had a great season although she failed to help her team to any title as they played second fiddle to treble winners MF Storm all year long.
It was in fact MF Storm’s Vanessa Barbé who was the runner-up for the top female player award.
Moustache, a goalkeeper for AC Brothers, is the best player of the season after helping his side to claim two titles including the league crown.
AC Brothers won the Mohan Shopping Centre-sponsored league championship and the Curtain-raiser trophy. They finished as runners-up in the Challenge Cup won by Quincy Mampo.
Durantha Brothers’ Dave Bonnelame finished as the second best player of the year.
For the Juniors, it was Kursha Loizeau who was named the best young female player ahead of previous winner Alanah Henry.
Kieran Jean is the winner of the boys’ title, finishing ahead of Dyan Azemia.
During Monday’s ceremony, the chairman of the Seychelles Handball Federation (SHF), Norbert Dogley, urged the clubs to aim towards youth development and told all the teams to try and find young players, as the federation wants all teams to eventually have an under-17 squad.
This, he said, will help towards the development of younger players for the future of the sport.
