Badminton - Ah-Wan, Cupidon named top players |30 December 2015

The 2015 sports season is drawing to a close and the various federations have already begun to name their best performers who will vie for the top places in next January’s  Sports Awards of the Year crowning ceremony.

In badminton, it has been quite a good year after the sport clinched a gold medal in the women’s doubles at the All-Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville along with two bronze medals.

Although the badminton players failed to win gold at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Reunion, they did manage to grab some silver and bronze medals.

It is Juliette Ah-wan who has been chosen as the 2015 female badminton player of the year after a year where she won one gold and one bronze medal at the All-Africa Games.

At the IOIG, former Sportswoman of the Year Ah-Wan claimed one silver and two bronze medals for Seychelles and she was also victorious in the Curtain-raiser tournament locally.

Alisen Camille is the runner-up.

Georgie Cupidon is the best male player of the year after winning two bronze medals at the All-Africa Games in addition to three bronze medals at the IOIG in Reunion.

Last year’s winner, Steve Malcouzane is Cupidon’s runner-up.

Meanwhile, Ginessa Ravinia and Fabien Gerry are the top young female and male badminton players for the year 2015.
