Environment rewards long-serving staff |23 January 2016

Twenty-two employees who have worked with the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change for between five and 44 years have been recognised and rewarded for their long service and loyalty.

Eight employees who have clocked 20 years of service and above received special mention and rewards, while the director of human resources and administration, Herline Balthilde, was recognised and rewarded for clocking more years of service with the company, 44 years in total.

“I started working in 1971 as a clerk typist with the ministry; since I started I was able to climb to the top, I had the opportunity to follow courses to develop my skills. I then became a secretary and from there I went into the administration department. I have always loved to work in the public department, and I will stay until I retire,” Ms Balthilde said.

Altogether 14 employees have clocked between five to ten years of service, four of them between 20 and 30, and three of them between 42 and above, with the longest being Ms Balthilde.

The other two longest serving employees with more than 42 years of service are Berry Antat who has clocked 42 years of service, and Marcel Belmont with 43 years of service with the ministry.

The employees received their certificate, tokens of recognition and rewards during a ceremony organised for them by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change at the Sea Front Restaurant yesterday afternoon.

The event was attended by the Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change Didier Dogley, principal secretary for environment Alain Decommarmond, principal secretary for energy and climate change Wills Agricole, among other guests and the ministry’s management and staff.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Dogley thanked everyone for their hard work and motivation for the year 2015.

“It is truly fitting that every year we come together and celebrate our accomplishment during the year. Last year we worked really hard to bring a quality service to the community, this year we should double our effort and bring more motivation to our work that we produce,” he said.

He added that in 2015 the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change was faced with so many obstacles but managed to overcome some of them.

He said this year the ministry is also planning to install photovoltaic systems to every school as well as introducing a new scheme of service for staff.

“But we need everyone to be committed by delivering top quality service,” added the minister.

During the ceremony there was also a special token for Roger Estico who recently retired as a driver, and Doris Morel for the hard work she is doing as an environment police, protecting the environment.
