Car Hire Operators Association holds AGM |08 April 2016
Vincent Padayachy re-elected chairman
Vincent Padayachy of Eden’s Car Hire has been re-elected chairman of the Seychelles Car Hire Operators Association (SCHOA).
The election took place during the association’s annual general meeting held on Wednesday in the conference room of the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino.
Other members elected are Jadel Malow from Travel Mate Car Hire as vice-chairman, Simon Hoareau from Horizon Cars as the treasurer and Rudy Bastienne from Jan’s Car Hire as the association’s Secretary. Aubrey Manes from Unicars, Patrick Larue (Smart Car Hire), Keven Parcou (Avis) and Aline Etienne (Octopus Car Hire) are the ordinary members.
The committee’s mandate is for two years.
The SCHOA has been in existence for some 40 years.
According to chairman Padayachy during the last two years, especially last year, the association has seen great improvements in relation to its dialogues with the authority and concerned agencies.
“We have projected ourselves as a very serious organisation and I forsee the continuation of the good relation with other stakeholders. This will allow the car hire business to be more professional. For example we discussed an issue whereby our new vehicles are now being tested annually instead of every six months which is something that is very appreciated by car hire operators but we are also trying to see with government if we could have our business license renewed every five years like other businesses instead of every year. We have a few issues still under discussion,” he said.
Mr Padayachy added that the SCHOA is very happy that a road policy is being drafted and that one of its members is sitting on the committee. He said that there are about 175 car hire operators and 62 are registered with the association. Last year there were only 38 registered members.
Car Hire Operators can operate with a minimum of five cars to a maximum of fifty. Only Seychellois are allowed to run car hire businesses.
Mr Padayachy vows that the association will continue to work for the benefit of its members, the clients and the country as a whole.
The SCHOA is based in the Unique building at Providence.
