IDC reacts to cyclone warning |15 April 2016
The Islands Development Company (IDC) has decided to reduce the number of its employees on the island of Farquhar following the advisory from Early Warning Centre of the National Meteorological Services with regards to the tropical cyclone ‘Fantala’.
The company sent an aircraft yesterday afternoon to bring back a first group of IDC employees from Farquhar and a second flight is planned for today. A small contingent of IDC workers will remain on Farquhar to monitor the situation and to look after the company’s essential services.
These workers will be housed in the cyclone-proof facility that the company built following the cyclone ‘Bondo’ of December 2006.
IDC continues to monitor the situation in collaboration with the National Meteorological Services and the Department of Risks and Disaster Management and will take appropriate measures with regard to its employees on the other islands of Astove and Assumption should this become necessary.
