Football - Avani joins the Seychelles football family |17 June 2016

With long-time partner Barclays having recently removed its support towards the local football federation, work is ongoing towards finding new partners to join the football family in Seychelles and on Wednesday, it was Avani Seychelles Resort who made their contribution.

Avani Seychelles Resort, based at Barbarons on the west of Mahé, presented a cheque for R24,000 to the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) yesterday, in short ceremony held at the Maison Football, Roche Caiman.

Upon receiving the cheque from the general manager of the resort, Stephane Vilar, the chairman of the SFF, Elvis Chetty, welcomed Avani to the football family.

“The SFF has been working hard recently, especially our technical office, where we are developing youth football in the country and this donation will go a long way to helping this project,” said Mr Chetty.

Mr Vilar on his part said that it was an honour to present this cheque to the federation and has revealed that they will be offering more support towards sports in the future.

With regards to the future of Seychelles’ league championships, Mr Chetty revealed that the SFF is still working hard to look for the best deal for Seychelles football and they will make an announcement once a new sponsor is finalised.

The sponsor of the annual national knockout tournament will also change, with Intelvision’s contract now over and the negotiations are also ongoing on this front, where an announcement will be made shortly by the federation.

Seychelles football is going through a number of changes this year, where there is also expected to be elections for the executive committee as well to take place this year.
