Seychelles artists to take part in Mauritius music festival |21 July 2016

‘On the move’ is how the emancipation of culture in the Seychelles is being described. It was only last week that the Patrick Victor Cultural Foundation was launched and this week Patrick Victor, the patron of the foundation, is himself leading a delegation of artists to Mauritius alongside Benjamine Rose, the principal secretary (PS) for Culture in the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to take part in the Festival 6-8 Sega Typik et Maloya.

Earlier this week, the group of Seychellois artists received their airline tickets at ESPACE building offices of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in the presence of Alain St Ange, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, PS Rose and Jimmy Savy, the chief executive of the National Arts Council (Nac).

PS Rose will be travelling with the delegation as the official delegate and Patrick Victor is head of the delegation comprising Jean-Marc Volcy, Brian Matombe, Norville Ernesta, Elvis Seraphine, Chanel Kilindo and Jeanette Zialor.

In Mauritius Patrick Victor and Jean-Marc Volcy will also be taking part in a workshop on moutya, maloya and sega tipik.

Patrick Victor said that this music genre is unique to the Indian Ocean and that it was important for Seychellois artists to be present at such festivals to fly the island's flag high.

The organisation in Mauritius is taking care of the accommodation and meals for the Seychellois artists and the Nac and the department of culture are facilitating with the transport arrangements to Mauritius.

Minister St Ange called on Seychellois artists to work together to continue to raise the level of music in Seychelles.

“You will be proud of what we are achieving when you know that what we are producing is at par with standards and the acceptable norms. As the ministry responsible for culture we shall continue to work with serious artists who make Seychelles proud. Our music stadium is now taking shape and this every one passing through English River can see. This great facility will further help to enhance the development of music in our country,” said Minister St Ange as he handed over airline tickets to the seven artists travelling to Mauritius.
