FAO launches World Food Day contest for children |05 August 2016
The Food and Agriculture Organisation has launched a poster and video contest for children to mark World Food Day which will be commemorated on October 16.
The theme for World Food Day 2016 is: ‘Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too’.
The World Food Day contest is inviting children and youths to say what they think about the threat of climate change to food security either by designing a poster in the category 5 to 19 years or producing a video no longer than one minute in the category 13 to 19 years.
The deadline to submit entries is September 30.
Support materials, including the World Food Day Activity Book, can be found on the World Food Day website. The Activity Book is an educational tool for teachers, students and anyone who wishes to learn more about the World Food Day 2016 theme. It can also be used to inspire young people who wish to take part in the World Food Day poster and video contest.
Illustrations in the activity book have been left unfinished to get students to use their imagination and colour a positive future for our planet. A series of tips for children, outlining simple ways in which everyone can make a difference, is included at the end of the Activity Book.
