Roche Caïman Ju-jitsu club celebrates 10th anniversary |26 August 2016
It has been 10 years since the Roche Caïman Ju-jitsu club was formed here in Seychelles and it celebrated the milestone with a grading session that took place last weekend.
In all, eight were promoted to new belts, five of them were promoted to yellow belt, while three received green belts.
The students graded are Caleb Zelia, Kevin Banane, Dominique Labrosse, Brandon Lucas and Stephen Ongaro (all promoted to yellow belt), Makhan Bristol Cissoko, Andy Pelissier and Tony Letourdie (promoted to green belt).
“We have achieved a lot through the years and currently we have two schools affiliated with the Ju-Jitsu Federation,” said Shihan Philip Philoé who heads the club.
Instructors Harry Rose and David Antoine lead the students at the Roche Caïman Ju-jitsu club, while the younger Persévérance club is headed by instructors Jean-François Adeline and Jude Raoul.
Shihan Philoé also acts as the technical advisor to the Roche Caïman club.
“On behalf of the club we would like to thank all of the parents and friends who have supported the students and the club over the years,” said Shihan Philoé.
He added: “We would also like to thank the National Sports Council for its cooperation and support; specifically Ms Teresa, Terrance Barbé and chief executive Giovanna Rousseau.”
Shihan Philoé also sent a message of thanks to all sponsors and people who have helped the club.
Ju-jitsu is a Japanese martial art and a method of close combat for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon or only a short weapon.
Shihan Philoé is encouraging people of all ages to come forward and join the sport as the discipline it instills in the students will not only help them in the sport but also in all aspects of their lives, by improving social skills, fitness, heath, concentration, among many others.
