Health ministry signs accord with Guangzhou hospitals |05 September 2016

The Ministry of Health has signed a cooperation agreement with a group of hospitals from Guangzhou, the capital and largest city of the Guangdong Province in southeastern China.

The hospitals are grouped in an association called Guandong Hospital Association.  The agreement, which defines the cooperation’s terms and conditions, was signed by the deputy chief executive of the Seychelles Health Care Agency Dr Danny Louange and Dr Guohong Zheng, chairperson and president of the Guangdong Hospital Association.

Also present at the signing ceremony at the Seychelles Hospital on Friday were the Minister for Health Mitcy Larue, principal secretary Dr Bernard Valentin, other health officials and hospital directors from the Chinese province.

Dr Zheng talked about the benefits that what he described as “top hospitals in China” will bring to the Seychellois people.

The agreement, he added, paves the way for the two sides to work together in the fields of medical research and training.

“The programme will benefit citizens of both China and Seychelles. We have built one bridge and we need people from both sides to cross it,” he said.

Thanking Dr Zheng and his delegation, Dr Louange remarked that it is a great opportunity to put into place a long-term relationship with a group of hospitals of recognised standard.

He added that this was part of the Ministry of Health’s strategy to extend cooperation with other health institutions around the world and learn from them.

“The signing engages us to materialise the cooperation in a structured way. It represents lots of opportunities in terms of short courses and research development. The way forward is to build up that cooperation to a level where both the Health Care Agency and Guangzhou will benefit,” Dr Louange said.

The health agreement has been made possible through an accord which already exists between the Office of the Mayor of Victoria and the city of Guangzhou. Prior to the signing ceremony, the delegation had met Victoria Mayor Jacqueline Moustache-Belle and had discussed the shape of the cooperation.

According to Mrs Moustache-Belle, the collaboration has already brought about fruitful exchanges in different fields.
