SeyBrew production goes digital with new software installation |01 October 2016
With the recent installation of a new software system which manages production in its brewery at Le Rocher, Seychelles Breweries Ltd (SBL) has brought beer and Guinness production in Seychelles to the digital age.
As part of its effort to upgrade the processing and production of the two beverages, Seybrew as the brand is intimately known to Seychellois, has also commissioned a new boiler. The two combined investments amount to a total of around R26 million.
Mastering the fully computerised system from the control room in the recently upgraded brew house, master brew Daniel Adu comments that beer and Guinness production “is now fully automatic, without the need of touching any button”.
Good news for Seychellois beer lovers; he adds that with the new digital system beer and Guinness quality has improved and that the good taste is now constant!
Simon Harvey, director for the African region and chairman of SBL Seychelles along with managing director Nicholas Cook cut the ribbon to officially open the new brew house and commission the boiler. This was during a short ceremony on Thursday evening.
Mr Cook said that the new investments guarantee better quality through more consistent brewing, while the plant becomes more efficient through saving energy and water.
As for lemonade production, he added that SBL invested in an upgrade of its ‘Seypearl’ brand production system last year. He promised that in order to face growing competition and regain lost market share, the company which produces almost 200,000 beer bottles a day and recorded after tax profit of about R75 million last year will as part of a three-year investment plan keep on improving on the quality of its products.
The lost market has been generally due to a rise in the importation of foreign brands, while local beer lovers have sometimes complained of a change in the taste of their favourite SeyBrew.
While he has ensured that consumers will not see a rise in prices as a result of the investments, the MD has also announced that SBL is considering bringing back old brands such as the ‘Celebration Brew’.
Meanwhile, he feels that SeyBrew is in itself a celebration as its short supply chain permits Seychellois to enjoy fresh beer. And maybe, one of the best in the world!
